Gifting website server upkeep

Everyone should know by now that translation for Gifting the Wonderful World with Blessing (kono-subarashii-sekai-ni-shukufuku-o) is currently hosted off site at skythewoodtl.com

After being hit by DMCA bots, I set up a website in Netherlands and named the chapters as fanfiction as suggested by readers. Will probably drop the project if it is licensed and an official version is going to be released. But since there is no sign of that, will keep it going.

However, doing so cost money and the donations I got from gifting since its inception is all used up. All USD $20 that I got for it in the last 12 months. Server rental is USD$10 per month, domain name USD$10 per annum. Having to translate and pay money to entertain you guys is just depressing, and sap my motivation to continue to do so.

TL;DR: please donate to keep the alternate site up. Do include the words 'Gifting' so I know its for the site.

Thank you for your time.

*Edit (25 Jan, 7:00pm GMT +8) USD $411 so far, enough to keep the server up for three years.
Will stop with the updates. Thanks everyone!

    1. Yenpress alrady license it dude (they are the worst translation since they have many mistake on their own translation and have very extremely slow translation pace , usually it took more than 3 month per volume to publish) fan translation are far better than official translation

    2. Are you serious?

Yen Press didn't send the DMCA.

    3. IT's not yenpress. It's a company affiliated with kadokawa (shubarashi JP publisher) that complaining A.K.A sending DMCA

For fuck's sake, even the Sky translation team noted (in the discontinuation announcement for Overlord), that Yen Press are pretty relaxed with DMCAs, and usually doesn't start sending out any until a series is actually being released!

Seriously, if YP was really so deserving of hate, it would be easy enough to crucify them with just the facts... Not constantly having to make shit up to attack them with.

    5. As to the quality of YP and their translations, I have to be the voice of fairness and say its pretty good, but slow. Try reading Spice and Wolf. It was wonderful.

    6. To be honest I'm actually buying their SAO releases and the translation are rly decent. Also the fact they released SAO Prog way pass the fan translation is great.

Its true the fact they screwed up the trans for NGNL received alot of backlash but mostly their translations are pretty decent...... juz slow.

    1. Didn't u know? The anime for Gifting is alrdy airing. If u like the novel then watch the anime as well. The adaption is just as funny as the novels itself.

    2. Novels beat Anime though. The art in the anime is just bad. The drawing of Darkness in the LN beats the anime, hands down.

    3. Some ppl dont like to read walls of text and only watch so which is better is a matter of opinion.

Since i also read gifting i enjoyed the anime. The art may not be up to par with the illus, but the anime presentation was solid that i laughed my ass off juz 2 episodes in.

  12. Is it possible to continue other licensed works in this manner? I wouldn't mind donating to see a Overlord fan fiction.

    1. YenPress technically has the rights to translate so they can censor any other translators if they want to. Also YP hasn't rly officially issued the DMCA, juz that Sky dropped it in regards to YP picking it up.

  14. If only we could do this for Overlord too... once Vol. 10 gets released. When it does.

  15. You should take a look at wuxiaworld.com and their donation system. I'm not suggesting you do something like that, but I think you should be aware of what some other translators are doing these days.

  16. Based on (https://siteanalytics.compete.com/skythewood.blogspot.com/), you have ~50K visitors a month.

Assuming that is accurate and you would like to reduce the hosting cost even further, I recommend https://chadthompson.me/2013/05/static-web-hosting-with-amazon-s3/

It's much cheaper on the order of $5 per month.

  18. Thought KonoSuba was taken down, skimming older posts was a right choice, guess you can't always trust novelupdates
