Updates for Gifting

For my convenience, I will refer to the light novel "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!" as "gifting".

Another group had taken up gifting, yay! There is more than enough gifting to go around, so we can definitely share. I already did prologue for volume 5 because it was really short, so might as well post it up. Click here to visit the kntranslation for volume 5 chapter 1 part 1 now.

Anyway, we are working on the Drama CD right now, and will hopefully release it two or three weeks from now.

A new translator, Barry, will be doing side story volume 1, "Gifting the world with Explosion", we will be releasing his work here shortly, please give him a warm welcome!

Shout out to Darkdhaos, veteran editor and TaintedDreams who just joined this project.

Yours Sincerely,
Skythewood Translation

  1. I was wondering how this would work out. Glad to see people are able to share. This means more gifting for everyone!

    1. Not really. 'Most' tls are actually proofed MTL just so that english won't be too awkward. You remember how K & M worked out? The english was atrocious, borderline unreadable. I don't know about these guys, but 6 times out of 10 they will have bad translation, 3 times out of 10, they will drop it. 1 times out of 10 is that one, based tl, like sky and kaesar.

    2. Agreed. Rarely do i see translators with such precise release dates, and keeping to it as well, which is one of the main reasons why STW is so awesome. Can't complain because they are putting in effort though, but i'd be real disappointed if they mess up gifting.

  2. I'm curious: Will you guys link each others' stuff or I should just juggle-check either blog for new updates?

And, let me add: I kinda like K&M more! Mwahaha! But Gifting comes in a close second.

    1. K&M is just typical, boring tensei. I'd rather Sky drop it and focus on other novels

    2. Though aldnoah zero end was disappointment. It still change my preference of op mecha destroying subpar mecha to subpar mecha destroying op mecha through Achilles heel.

  3. Will you still do all chapters..? I've checked the website and looks like they don't use honorific in their translation. As your reader, i feel a litle weird when reading it without honorific...

    1. Most definitely. People are going to love the anime. That said, I'll totally buy YP's release if they have a digital release.

    2. It feels as if YenPress has been lately targeting novels that have a good amount of fan translations done... :c

    3. Which is smart on their end, they have proof of an established market for the novels and can focus on getting the novels over that we want. I intend to buy all of overlord as it is released state side, along with gifting

  5. I read it and I feel like the quality isn't really up to par with how you guys translate it. I'd prefer it if you stuck with it even if the translation becomes slower because it's hard to enjoy when the English is awkward.

  6. Are you guys dropping Gifting or will you keep translating it?

  7. Thanks Skythewood for your awesome translations. Since kntranslation's effort is counted as a teaser (the quality is far below average and on par with MTL), personally I'll wait patiently for your work (hoping that you won't drop this project). As far as Yen Press is concerned the probability of picking up Gifting is below 10% since they focus on top selling action series. And as mentioned before, YES, they keep licensing already fan translated works since they don't need to promote or advertise something that is already well known on the Anime/LN/manga community. I wouldn't bother by this tactic if there was a consistent high level professionalism but unfortunately this isn't always true. Official releases are in most cases either mediocre or in best case scenario on par with fan translations.

  9. Would be nice if you guys translate this after dropping overlord this series is just as good as knights

  10. It's technically a joint work eh... Well, that's good. But there's still one urgent problem. And that's, what's the next to project to start this new year after Overlord.

  11. Well, I know if It's rather selfish but (if you won't take this volume since other translation already take it) if you don't mind, I think you can just work for the next volume (6th) instead.
If we consider the probability of Yen PRESS to licensing this series, I think it's better to finish translating it as fast as possible.

    But, well, ....

    1. I know it is rather selfish, but can you guys, all of you guys, read what I post before commenting.

    2. I quote: "we are working on the Drama CD right now"
STW, not to defend them but people usually comment after only reading the first few lines, and as unfortunate as it is, it probably won't stop happening. Still! good luck on translating it!
BTW will you time the subs with the audio or will you do like last time?

  12. I much preferred your translation, but it is what it is. Thanks for your work thus far regardless. Without your group I wouldn't have discovered this title. (lol @ people hating on Yen because muh 15 dollar patience)

    1. I don't hate them. they just make me impatient since I need to wait for a year or so for them to catch up to the fan releases so I can continue.

  13. I've read some official releases but somehow I sometimes find them of lower quality to fan translations.

If it's like this why don't they just hire fan translators? Since they're already doing it for free, I doubt the cost to hire them would be that high. And they'd be able to get some tangible rewards for their works for once.

    1. Maybe some fan translators just do it for the love of the content itself and don't want any money to be gained off their work and are happy with the fact someone else is enjoying the media they translated?
