Overlord Volume 7 Epilogue

Epilogue

(Re)Translated by: Nigel
Proofreader/Editor: Deus Ex Machina

“Then, here’s the 100 gold coins as promised, and here’s the receipt.”

He looked at the contents of the purse, then nodded in satisfaction. Arche’s father signed the parchment handed to him without a moment’s hesitation. Finally, he put his family’s seal on it. The practiced nature of these movements proved that he had done them several times before.

“Will this be alright?”

The man looked at the parchment, and then nodded. If Hekkeran and Imina were here, they would have looks of absolute disgust on their faces. This man was the one who had gone to the inn where Foresight had stayed.

He looked over the parchment that had been handed to him several more times, made sure everything was in order and that the ink had dried, then rolled it up and slotted it into the parchment case.

“I’ve confirmed that there’s no problems.”

Then, the man indicated the purse before Arche’s father.

“Aren’t you going to make sure?”

“Ahhh, a coin more or less isn’t a big deal.”

“Really now?” the man replied to Arche’s father as he nodded grandly.

Of course, he had checked it earlier, and the full amount was there. However, a family whose fortunes had declined enough to borrow money to survive could not take even a single gold coin for granted. No, perhaps this family had been doomed once someone like him had become its heir.

To the man, however, none of that was important as long as the father was a good client.

“Then, the interest and repayment schedule will be the same as before, no?”

The head of the house responded to his question with the same magnanimous — certain of his superior status — nod of his head.

The man nodded in acknowledgement.

“...Ah, yes, is your daughter doing well?”

“Hm?”

The man remembered that this family had three daughters, and so he added:

“I refer to Arche-san.”

“Oh, Arche. She’s off earning money.”

“...Is that so.”

And what are you doing while your daughter’s making money?

The man adeptly hid the look of disdain in his eyes as the thought crossed his mind.

He could not help but pity the girl for having such a father.

After all, the man was not a monster.

It was simply that the most important thing was that the principal and interest had to be paid, and that they had to keep borrowing money from him. He had no intention of interfering with other people’s families.

“She brings a few coins back and she gets all carried away.”

As he heard the father’s unhappy reply, the man furrowed his brows. It would be troublesome if any sticky business happened which hampered their ability to pay up. Besides, the interest from this family had made him a fortune, so he would like very much to keep doing business with them. Therefore, he decided to try asking about something which he would normally not have bothered with.

“Did something happen?”

“No, nothing of the sort. Just a daugher forgetting how much care she received ever since she was a child and going against her father.”

“That’s good…”

“Honestly! I need to give her a good scolding! She needs to know the attitude a noble ought to have!”

The man would never speak what was in his heart. However, he had this one thing to say.

“It must be tough.”

“Exactly. Really, that stupid daughter…”

The man had not specified who he was referring to, and so the father had assumed that the man was talking about his own hardship and muttered to himself.

A hundred gold trading coins was a huge sum. However, given the usual circumstances, the father would probably spend it all right away, whereupon he would look the man up again. However, the man decided that it would be better not to lend him any more until this sum was paid up.

As he thought of that, the man surveyed the interior of the room.

To the man’s eyes, the room was dripping with exquisite furniture. At the very least, he would be able to recover the principal amount. And if selling the furniture was not enough to raise the required money—-

The man looked down to hide the emotion rising in his eyes.

“When you get down to it, a daughter of the Furt family shouldn’t be doing dirty work like that. She works with plebeians, who are doubtlessly of base character.”

“...Really?”

The man recalled the two faces he had seen in the bar as he answered. There was no telling how he had interpreted the inflection of that response, but the father continued explaining, as though to make an excuse for himself.

“Oh, I’m not saying all plebs are like that. I mean the adventuring sort.”

“Perhaps.”

“Don’t you think so? They were probably the ones who made my daughter turn on me. I need to find a chance to give her a good talking-to. Honestly, a daughter ought to be listening to her father. Actually daring to talk back to me, who does she think she is?”

The man glanced at the furious father, then rose from his chair.

“...Then, I have other places to go, so I’ll take my leave. Do remember to pay on time.”

***

“When’s onee-sama coming back?”

“She’ll be back real soon!”

There were two young girls in the room. They sat on the bed like it was a chair, and the two girls who sat side by side looked the same.

The pale faces were flushed slightly pink, calling to mind the image of angels. Given that they looked very similar to their elder sister, it was very easy to imagine how they would look once they grew up.

Both of them were dressed in the same way, in immaculate, pure white one-piece dresses, and a pair of pale, slender legs kicked beneath their skirts.

“Really?”

“Really!”

“Is that so?”

“Just so.”

“When onee-sama comes back, we’ll be moving house, right?”

“Of course!”

The two of them were very happy. They had not seriously thought about what moving house entailed, only that the big sister they loved the most would no longer leave them. That made them very happy.

Their big sister — Arche — often went out. They did not know what their big sister did, but they both knew that their big sister was doing something very important. Therefore, they decided not to be naughty, but they could not help wanting to play with their gentle sister.

Indeed. The two of them liked Arche more than anything else.

They liked their gentle, yet knowledgeable sister who treated them nicely.

“Why isn’t onee-sama back yet~?”

“Why isn’t she back yet~?”

“I’m looking forward to it, Kuuderika.”

“Mmm, very much, Uleirika.”

“I want onee-chan to read me a story~”

“I want onee-chan to sleep with me~”

“Kuuderika, you’re so cunning~”

“Uleirika, you’re cunning too~”

After that, the two of them looked at each other, and then smiled in the same happy way, before laughing in an adorable fashion, like the tinkling of silver bells.

“Then, Kuuderika can come sleep with onee-sama too.”

“Mm, Uleirika can sleep with onee-chan too.”

Then, the two of them laughed. They imagined the happy times that would soon be upon them—

    4. Is the Web Novel really that different..? Unfortunately, the author was probably under pressure from the publisher to make things more interesting.

There seems to be a trend towards really dark MCs who have ambiguous morales.

I love the Story from Overlord but.....this ending is the sadest one so far. Reminds you that Momonga is the bad guy and everyone else is just a puppet in his game.

  12. Not a fan of this volume I have to say.
Before, Ainz was cold, and he doesn't see humans on the same level and just animals.
    But he wasn't outright evil.
Here, its definitely evil territory. Its not like the workers found it by chance and started looting. He lured them there by giving the information out about the place. I blame demlerege or however you spell it.

    2. Ainz was never a goody two shoes, but he is filling more and more the role of a villain. His subordinates, his insecurities as a ruler, his undead status and the fact the only thing he really cares about anymore is what is related to his old companions all brought this situation.

I expect he will become more and more "evil", only caring about Nazarick. I think only the arrival of another player, from his guild or not, could shake him up enough to question his actions.

    8. He's honestly always been like that if you pay attention. Most of the time he has shown mercy or anything was due to outside circumstances like owing a favor or the likes.

Though a lot of it is his undead status. It deadens his emotions to things like fear and makes it harder to empathize with others. Add in that all he has left in the world is Nazarick and he is obviously not going to go out of his way to be all that nice. Other then to the people living there.

    10. One of the problems is that he just goes along with whatever Demiurge suggests. This isn't helped by the Undead "curse" which erases most of his opportunities to emphasise with people.

Did you really think he would let Arche escape though..?

    13. Nah you guys should become a literary critic. Authors just want us to enjoy their creation so why do we need to care about some sub-character's fate?

      Delete
    14. No, it's not evil from nazarick perspective because this is for measuring nazarick defense force against intruder

      Delete
    15. How is it in the evil territory? he leaked the information, but nobody forced the workers to come here, they knew that it will most likely be dangerous especially since it's completely unknown but nonetheless they chose to come regardless, after they arrived and saw that the tomb was kept clean and polished they realized that somebody is in there but still didn't back off and went ahead anyways.

    16. That' s what overlord is mainly about, a dark novel.
It's not a light heart novel that people typically read from the typical novels commonly found.

      Delete
    17. Ainz is a bonafide villain now. What marks a villain as such is that their selfish interests take priority over other people's lives, which is exactly what Ainz is doing. Morally, we should be cheering for the downfall of Nazarick, but when it comes to wanting the story to continue that's unrealistic.

However, what is not unrealistic is other players being alive in new world. The continent ainz is on cannot be the only continent in that world, and it's impossible for Ainz to be the only person logged in when the game was shut down, after hearing of how popular it was.

There are probably other super powerful players across the seas in other lands.

      Delete
    18. "However, what is not unrealistic is other players being alive in new world."
Ainz Ooal Gown isn't a player though. It's an entire guild with the divine gear of 40 former members. 11 world-class items. Half a dozen Level 100s. A near invincible fortress.

I don't see it progressing past Ainz toying with the enemy.
His opponent is always ridiculously powerful compared to the normal people in the world, but even then.. He usually ends up toying with them.

It's more likely that Nazarick will destroy itself.
The "Supreme Beings" never expected that the lore, etc. which they wrote for the NPCs would actually become reality, and so they wrote all sorts of troublesome things in there.

Sebastian is the antithesis of Demiurge.
Or perhaps, Nazarick will actually end up defeating all of the other players. It really depends on whether you want to wrap everything up with an actual ending.

Heck, Ainz could even go from world to world conquering them and end up becoming a multiversal conquerer.

Well no. Selfish interests taking priority of other people's lives is more or less humanity itself. Most people are much more hesitant about killing though, while Ainz has the emotional dampener or whatever.

The thing is that it's always something like the 13 heroes, the six gods, the eight greed kings, or some lone super powerhouse. The thing with Nazarick is that it has many powerhouses, and a practically invicible fortress.

      Delete
    19. Still the sisters fate is cruel.

But heck. Think about it. You are a leader of a Clan like Momonga and so on and the workers enter your fortress. You probably only see some invaders. You don't know their backgrounds or whatever so you don't care about their fate.

This is what all living things do all the time. Everyone who is not part of the same group is an outsider.

      Delete
    20. Ainz and the guardians are niave and innocent to the world around them. They're like children who haven't fully matured their moral compass. And that in many ways is the greater evil. Being out of touch in the world they're strength crushes innocent lives both directly and indirectly. No doubt if another player is alive around this time and meets Ainz, he'd probably give him the same lecture that Hiiro [in 'Konjiki no Wordmaster'] made to the heroes who squander their time, never experiencing the world around them!

      Delete
    21. Not really.Ainz does a lot to learn about the new world. Both personally and with his npc.He just really doens't care much about human lives aas long as they aren't usefull to him.

    22. "How is it in the evil territory? he leaked the information, but nobody forced the workers to come here, they knew that it will most likely be dangerous especially since it's completely unknown but nonetheless they chose to come regardless, after they arrived and saw that the tomb was kept clean and polished they realized that somebody is in there but still didn't back off and went ahead anyways."

That's slantwise and contemptuous self-deception. What Ainz did was entrapment. The wealth was placed aboveground on purpose. The tomb's disguise was exposed on purpose. And at any point along the line he could've negotiated and let the workers go, because it's not like they really cost him anything.

"But heck. Think about it. You are a leader of a Clan like Momonga and so on and the workers enter your fortress. You probably only see some invaders. You don't know their backgrounds or whatever so you don't care about their fate."

Wrong. In his shoes I'd recognize that I was the leader of a bunch of human players in a video game. That Nazarick was nothing but pixels. And that given power, I have every responsibility to make sure that power is neither misapplied or abused.

There's no rational reason to allow creatures like Shalltear to do as she pleases just because she was a weekend art project of a friend. No matter how much I really liked that friend.

Man, what a volume! First I was finding it very boring, but the intermission and chapter 4 were awesome *-*
First, wtf is Rubedo: "Shalltear would be a weakling in comparison". This is too much op...
Second, another guild weapon *-*. Ainz has to get it!

Finally, could the leader of the 13 heroes be Touch-me?

    2. Yeah, but I kinda had this impression when they said that the 13 heroes's leader was a "good guy". Of course, it didn't mean that only Touch-Me was good, but it would be a nice "plot twist" to Ainz.

Do as Demiurge and let me dream a little T-T

    3. Shalltear is far from the strongest being in Nazarick. Some Area guardians are stronger then she is and the 8th floor has things in it that Ainz mentions is dangerous to Albedo going full defense. So it makes sense that there is something like that.

Though in general Ainz going all out with all his relics beats out most NPCs other then Rubedo.

I'm also pretty sure that other guild weapons can't be used but by the guildmaster of the guild or something like that.

    5. Yeah, I not even doubt that Pandora's Actor is stronger than Shalltear (and also it's said that Gargantua is too). But, I didn't expected that there was someone who makes Shalltear, a lvl 100, seems like a weakling. Shalltear is already so fucking strong that Albedo wanted that Cocytus, Mare and herself fought against her. So, again, wtf is Rubedo hahaha

About the guild weapon, I believe that it can. Or, at least, I didn't found anything saying that it can't (only that the boy from the volume 2 could use The Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown)

When Momon asked the workers why they would risk their lives, thou they didn't know he was giving them a way to live.

Had Arche let it slip that it was for her family, I think she would still be alive. If they said that they needed money to support their families or they're struggling to make a living, etc. then.. He might have let that slide.

Impressing him by showing that they're comrades..?
I don't see how that's relevant to them robbing the tomb, killing it's inhabitants and doing it all for a quick buck.

  29. Very sad ending, the fall of ainz in the madness, insecurity and megalomania. This prepares us to not feel pity by Ainz when is defeated by an internal revolt (leaded by demiurge) or and external attack. This chapter reminds me "Tuf Voyaging" of George R. R. Martin.

Uff more chapters as this...I need some "happy ending" in the future chapters or i quit reading.

what with the elder sister twin's ,which is arche, never came back and those twin gonna be slaved, tortured as toy and given painful death. it gives "wanna protect" them inside the reader heart isnt? then maybe the reader would start caring with those that around them irl .

Two cute little angels being sold into slavery and possibly experiencing the same type of brutality that tsuare faced but at a younger age is too dark... I can see why the LN version took a different route...
But then again I can't really blame Ainz because he's an undead, a being that has suppressed emotions and is capable of taking cold calculated actions... I mean all he wanted was to test out his security system and him being an undead overlord, killing people in the process regardless of their circumstances is well within his nature.. So keep doing your thing supreme overlord...

    2. I actually feel different after reading dozens upon dozens of translated chinese web novels where blood feuds start over the most petty things or cities get massacred by sociopaths left and right.

There's a difference between a realistic character who doesn't go out of their way to save the day everyday and someone who is progressively becoming more and more evil.

  34. Please, allow me to express my gratitude for my fellow friends at Skythewood, who had personally take their time and effort to bring this marvelous light novel into a language to which we understand.

And most important of all, So-Bin-sama for his(or her, i don't know) expressive and innovative arts, and also Maruyama-sama, for he has succeed in his attempt to evoke emotions in our hearts, fellow readers, isn't that the mark of a wonder of an author?

Reel us in into the stories, entice us with attachment and give us ambiguous ending for the little sisters, and we cannot help but to feel sad, grief and a sense of loneliness for yet, what is to come for their lives, the little angels.

  35. Lot’s of people are writing about Arche’s death ad the fate of her little sisters. But I have seen no one caring about the two new LIVING NESTS. I suppose one will care more about of the characters with pages of background than someone with only a few lines, but considering what happened to the others I believe it could have ended much worse.

I won’t try to find excuses to the behavior of the main character, because there aren’t. He is just evil, and he have been like this since he used “gasp heart” instead of “paralysis” in the first volume.

I personally enjoyed the volume. I don’t even know how many times I have read about a hero of justice who want to defeat the evil or about an anti hero who at the end it’s good. Reading the story of an ACTUAL EVIL MAIN CHARACTER is something I always wanted.

In the end, I can only give you an advice. Instead of reading a story hoping it to change, you should just read and try to enjoy a story different from the others.

    1. Another thing people seem to forget, there are HUNDRED if not thousands of innocent that died in the previous volume, all those Demiurge kidnapped to make it "look good" that were sent to Nazarick.

Ainz chose to have them killed painlessly, since they were not enemies of Nazarick but just to keep appearances he still had innocent men, women and children slaughtered by the hundreds.

People keep talking about decent to madness, last straw, Ainz going evil... He always was, from not resurrecting the people in the Carne village to killing to further his goals.

The only difference is that we didn't have a sob story background to each of the many people killed.

Ainz is evil, but he tries to limit the casualties and since he is the MC we have empathy for him, but he was a broken man to begin with. he had no one but his guild mates and no he is an undead trying to keep his guild alive in a world were the stakes are all too real.

Also the leader messed everything up by faking knowing a guild member personally. That was a landmine that the leader should of never stepped on.

    2. Here's the thing. Momomga is incredibly lonely right now. His minions worship the soil he walks on. He has no friends or companions in that, just fanboys. Momonga puts so much trust and respect with his friends that he already said would stop his plans if they decided against it. And Momonga is still very human. He is doing a specific action hoping for a response:

"I'll bait a little to let them know I'm here"
"No reponse? I'll bait a little more"
"Still nothing? Gotta bait a little more"

Remember that Ainz wants to see his friends badly and the situation we see now got more intense since his good guy role got no response. From which is what he did first

      Delete
    3. Yeah, Hekkeran is not using its brain at all. Let is presume he convinces Ainz for a time. What of it? Ainz will not let them escape of Nazarick until he himself confirms that the info is true. Then, when he returns after knowing about the lies their fate will be horrible for trying to trick him.

So let is think about it. Maybe you will be able to live a few days more while Ainz is investigating.

However, when he returns he will be angrier than even now since here he discovered it inmediately. They will experience even worse things than the ones they are destined for now. I dont know if a few days will be worthy.

  38. As pointed out by some others, its' partially the workers' fault when they told Ainz their reason for invading. Ainz had no way of knowing Arche's background and when Momon asked them why they were doing the job, they all said "money". So in Ainz' eyes, he really was just killing a bunch of filthy thieves. Even if they did show some comradery, they were still thieves who only cared about money (albeit caring about money TOGETHER, but still doing it for the money), as far as he knew.

  45. Thx for all :) .

Im dissapointed with this novel, it was totally unimportant for the history. Why did he show us all the workers and their lifes if he is going to kill them all? The empire part of the novel was ok, but all the history around nazarick and the workers is irrelevant. He showed us that he is going to turn into a real undead, but he was showing that from the begining. It wasn't dissapointing for me that he was an evil mind, but if you describe in your novel 10 characters and you kill them all in the same novel, it feels really pointless to read all about them. You have to let someone alive who adds something to the next novel.

I could just jump this 7th novel and i would miss nothing of the history. I can just read the arrival of Mare/Aura to the capital and it would be enough.

Btw i don't care about the characters, it is not as if Arche or Hekkeran was appealing to me. It only feels as if i read a side story about how Mare buys a dog, may be i would read it anyway but if i jump the story, i wouldn't miss anything and i wouldn't care.

  49. Thanks, I really loved it. To sad that there won't be more to the story of the twins, I would love to see the entire family get wasted by the stupid actions of their parents.

Ainz-sama wasn't behaving evil. He just needed to test the defense mechanisms of nazarick and the only way is to have someone attack, but they have to die as not to give out information about nazarick.
Then he needed to fight against opponents giving their all as a team to improve his combat abilities and also do research.

He is just going down a checklist. I would probably be very similar to his behavior, only I would venture out a lot more to get more information, travel farther and manage nazarick by teleporting back and forth.

Also if they're turning Arche's head into a hat that means Ainz could potentially revive her if need be like perhaps the twins also develop strong magic and catch Ainz's eye (they haven't died in the story yet so there's always a chance the author will change his mind by the time it goes to print).

  56. Momonga was good in the beginning right? But then he started to treat humans like bugs even though he knows he's one of them, at least a little bit. Now he's taking things too far. This doesn't bode well for Evileye, as he probably plans to kill her while she's fawning over him (before she realizes what he's done, of course). Another problem with momonga is that he's kinda stupid, human populate most of the areas in the world, or at least that's how it usually is, and so he should be making some actual connection with the race, not this shit. And, he's going against his original plan for Momon, the point was to do good deeds while Momon and then come out and say "it's been me momonga to whole time, aren't I a good person?!", but now he's openly showing that ainz is a bad person that should be destroyed by hero's. He's just not thinking anymore.

    2. Couple of points to counter:
      1. Momonga himself realized he has ceased to be human in body and soul already back at cairn village. Only some vestiges of his humanity are left, and they are disappearing as well.
      2. Though Evileye has very little chance in any case, she is not human either.
      3. This was meant to test Nazarick, not make relations. Even then, we've already seen that brutal approach to enemies is the standard in this world. Those humans you fawn over? Remember that one of them came to the Nazarick with she-elf slaves? And the strongest reaction from other humans to the slavery was at most mild disgust?

Really now. Comparing to some humans, Ainz is a saintly messiah.

      Delete
    3. You mean the Slane Theocracy..? Yeah, they've been kinda setup as villains since the beginning.

Asides from that, there's the underworld, and there's politics aka nobles rebelling against their overlords or overlords suppressing the nobles.

I know that his excuse is.. We were all being controlled by a World-class item..!! but, you'd think that he wouldn't jump onto the torture bandwagon, except for when it's absolutely necessary.

      Delete
    4. In the previous volume we have the nobles using human slaves like toys, the "good hearted, saint of a princess" kill all those rescued girls just so they wouldn't get close to Climb as well.

Last but not least, all of Ainz Ooal Gown players were inhuman monsters, with only Touch Me having a good karma. Meaning only him might dissagree with what he has done, the others would all have been affected by their alignement as well.

      Delete
    5. The question is.. Is he being affected by his alignment or his he being affected by the emotional suppression and the fact that he just follows whatever suggestions the evil people like Demiurge give him..?

      Delete
    6. @Azareal:
I think both, his alignment allows him to think of extreme methods which may goes against human moral, while his 'emotional suppression' eliminates any doubts and disgusts from his human soul (well, what left of it anyway).

Now this may be a little far-fetched, but I think Ainz right now behave like a player controls his character in a game, and he doesn't have much sympathy for some 'pixels' characters (which he knows are not the case).

  59. In the last volume, a lot of people is abducted/kill by demiurgue but aiz only accept the accomplished fact because of his insecurities. But in this volume Ainz takes an active part gloating in its own inhumanity.

Besides, the author also delights in showing an excessive cruelty in first plane. It's like seeing something on the news or see it with your own eyes. Occasionally it is torerable but if it becomes a habit... It is a good novel but becomes difficult to read.

    1. That's the thing. In the previous volume, you could tell that he had no clue what was going on, and that he was just being dragged along by Demiurge.

    2. The thing is, he is very much a slave to his emotions.
He asked them why they would risk their lives, they answered for "money".

He wasn't asking adventures why they adventured, but thieves why they would steal what he and his only friends created after many years.

Add the lies about knowing a friend of his and he lost it.

      2 emotions control him:
      - A feeling of worthlessness, for which he over compensates all the time.
      - Loneliness, which is exactly why he had so much invested in Yggdrasil to begin with.

6 volumes in and you still couldn't tell what Ainz's morality was? really? Was the result of his fight with clementine not illuminating enough?
Ainz has always been a selfish, egotistical pure villain. He already played this way as a yggdrasill player, amongst comrades of the same nature. Only two things have changed: one, it's not a game anymore, wich would normally hold back a human, at least temporarily... and two, his undead status essentially kills his emotions. remember how he felt nothing to the masacre in carne village initially.
The last few chapters, he had had to hold back and pretend to be nices than he is too much to fit the expectations people had of Momon. It's perfectly appropiate to give us now a reminder of his actual nature.
If you guys want a "villain" story with game-like terms that still doesn't go too far, go read Moonlight Sculptor.

    2. Yeah, at first he want to be a hero and change his impression back at the game. But his action condradict with his will, starting with massacre lizardmen, letting demiurge kidnap innocent people, and then after he know that his subordinate want to give him the world, he just let it go, because it's not affect to his main objective (spread his name so the member know him). After that, he just simply plain to be the infamous person and do inhuman thing, as long as it's not an obstacle to objectives. Even though he is undead, he still have his humanity, but he killing it slowly because he doesn't want to make his subordinate disappointed. Irony, he is overlord but can't make decision from himself. While he know that he isn't a good leader, at least he should learn how to make decision, not learn how to be leader just show his immaturity while he thinks he become more mature (no, posing in front of mirror and pretending isn't a development of character).
But that's what make things interesting, sooner or later he will meet the condition whether he should completely kill his humanity or keep his humanity.

The fact that he was swimming in debt caused Arche to seek a way to make easy money to help the family? Hell, Arche would probably have never been with Foresight if it weren't for him.

Ainz was lied to about his comrades and was also told that the workers there were here for money which he assumed was for personal gain.

Furthermore, despite the fact that Ainz purposely leaked information about Nazarick to Fluder and thus Jirncv. Nobody forced the workers to go. The allure of great wealth is what brought them to their fates. So is Ainz really the bad guy here?

  70. Ainz is not really evil. The good and evil depends by the way you look at it.

For Nazarick Ainz is a hero. For the victims he is a monster. The same is for the others. Foresight didnt doubt on the slightest that Nazarick is evil and that Ainz is a monster incapable of reasoning. Humans are not really better than them. They will destroy Nazarick if they could. The only difference is that they are stronger and therefore Nazarick rules.

Putting apart the fact that the one with strenght is the one on the right, morally Ainz is not really at fault. The workers try to invade their realm. They have to accept the consequences. Nobody forced the workers to invade, even if they didnt have enough info, that is not Ainz's fault. Regarding Demiurge's errands on the volume 6, it is a little extreme, but for world domination ( that is the problem on itself, :P ) they have to do at least a part of what they did. Volume 4 was a need to make Nazarick stronger in order to deal with possible attacks on the future and this one was a need to test if the defenses work as they did on Yggdrassil. Sure, the invaders were too weak, but there are reasons for it.

    1. It is difficult to find others. He cannot invite the Slane Theocracy without preparation, can he? Adamantine adventures are stronger but that difference is nothing for Nazarick so there is not problem.

    2. I dont think he wants to spend a lot of money on that. For testing if the defenses work it is fine to only test the cheap ones. For extension, you can presume the expensive ones will work. It will be strange that they dont.

    3. This allows Ainz to retaliate vs the Empire controlling them as puppets righteously so the choice of victims is perfect.

Therefore, everything has a reason so far and...............this is a dark novel, you cannot expect Ainz to be a boring hero.

  71. I'm sure that Ainz is gonna get overthrown for being an imposter, or unfaithful to the supreme beings, or atleast for being a weakling. He's trying to run a dictatorship/religion like a business, and his followers are starting to see him in a light that they previously wouldn't have even dared thought of. It's a little disturbing to see the change happen in the guardians, especially albedo. It's like, glaringly obvious that ainz is losing control of his followers by being an idiot.

  72. 6/10

This series is getting masochistic. I dont enjoy reading about people getting killed, tortured, raped, and enslaved at a whim. I read the news for that. Overlord had a good start, but the pattern is getting disagreeable. Introduce characters that the reader get attached then kill them off is a cheap way to generate hook. It the same thing over and over.
