[Not a translation] 6 months later...

There are no translations here, so feel free to ignore this.


Hi there,



The first post on this blog was 17th September 2014, so it has been 6 months and a few days since I started posting here. During this time, I translated 2 volumes of Altina, 2 volumes of Knight's & Magic, 2 volumes of Gifting and V2 of Overlord.

I try to stick to the official Chinese version, but there is still a chance that I missed some stuff because I am not using the source material. Like some proz amateur translator said, translating from a translation is always wrong. Always.

Which brings me to this point.



Desperate people calls for desperate measures, so if you are willing to make do with me, I'm cool with it. If not, I guess you can pretend I don't exist and do something else. Please, don't come here if it upsets you. I don't want to make you sad, there are already plenty of sad things in this world .


Project updates:
Knight's & Magic V2 will be completely translated next Tuesday. I can't read Japanese, so please carry on the search for a Jap TL to take over the project. Good luck.

Personally speaking, I like Gifting. But going by the page views and donations, it is not popular with others. Maybe the manga version would do better. Majority wins, will put this on hiatus.

Good news for Altina, someone is picking it up. MythosIX has started working on the translation, and the editing team is helping him. Round of applause for the new translator.

 As for Overlord, it is not my project, I am just helping. The current team is Ferro, Sene9ty, Ghoststaker, Namorax, Fate Trooper, Exct G. Remember to credit them, not me.

    gifting is genius unlike the wish fulfillment op mc harem of perfect girl everyone seems to love. Every Wednesday I wait desperately for the new chapter of gifting. The main character is very likable, the harem is slightly satire, and the interactions between characters is interesting.

      Same. I honestly got bored of the novels with OP MC that keeps magically getting power ups and everything he needs thrown at him with a nonsensical harem of girls that just happen to like the MC because the MC is the MC.

      Well, to be honest, there's not too much of that on this site (Overlord maybe but even then it is an unusual take on the tale) : neither Altina nor Eru nor Kazuma are completely in this mold.
      Though I'm sad to see Gifting go especially with the current cliffhanger !

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...... not gifting T_T It is one of my favourite LN for both the fantasy adventure genre combine with well written comedy. All other novel idea of comedy is only innocent ecchi/sex jokes only >_< I also enjoyed Magic & Knights because of you. You pick up good novels, and your translation are so easy to read.

    I don't understand people complaining that you're not translating from the source. If they care so much about it, then they should translate the novels from the source themselves.

    We, your fans, appreciate your translations and know those complainers will not translate those LN from the source, so we're really sadden by your announcement.

    Have a good rest, I will still follow you and wait till the day you decided to pick up translating again T_T

    I know it's ultimately your choice, but please reconsider working on Gifting after your break! It's become one of my favorite novels and I'm sure tons of people are also looking forward to reading how it develops.     Personally, like you, I prefer Gifting rather than K&M. But I'll give Altina a go!
    By the way I appreciate that you put Gifting on hiatus after finishing the volume. Cliffhanger is cliffhanger, but is always better than half finished job. :) Thank you very much. I, like others, I hope the hiatus will not be too long!

    I came to skythewood after someone recomended gifting in comment post in WN Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari on Yoraikun blog. I read vol 1 and it was really interesting, after finished vol. 1 that was present by that time i try to read others novels here and only Altina catch my interest. I dont want to hear that gifting is going on hiatus :(. I think the problem with low popularity is that people dont know about this novel.Its not being recomended anywhere and its only at vol. 1 (now 2) so people only read those novel that are popular and have most chapters translated. Second vol. was more interesting than vol 1. If people recomend it on others blogs its will probably catch eyes of more people like novel Zhan Long, tate no youshi, mushi tense, etc.

      Unfortunately, the current trend is that people want MC that are OP. They don't want MC that aren't OP that is able to put up a fight with strategy like Mx0.

      Since I'm one of these guys who don't like Gifting, I'll atleast leave my thoughts on these things here.

      First off, I don't particularly like overpowered MC's. On the contrary, I hate it when they get unreasonable power ups, it gives me an urge to just close my browser/book and never look back. But what I came to hate even more, are MC's that either get smacked about, or manipulated by their harem.
      Sadly enough, only the OP MC's don't get a "Fist of Love!" from some fuckin' tsun-tsun girl for every 5 sentences I read. And even here you have only a few who don't let themselves hit for no reason, or have a harem that doesn't have that "Love=PUNCH TO THE FACE!" formular in place.

      Honestly, I didn't read too much from it (I stumbled over the Manga by accident.) but that little gave me an awfully familiar feeling of it having an MC that either lets himself Manipulated, and/or smacked about by his own harem.

      If I should be mistaken about this, please correct me - preferably without getting personal. :)

      Hmm Kazuma is not really manipulated by his harem...it is just that his harem is the definition of chaos and that even though he is the most reasonable of that bunch, he still is a normal guy with normal desires and ambitions :D

      This leads to truely awful (for the characters) situations, because they often act quite selfish. Kazuma himself e. .g often wants to look cool in front of others, while he always horribly fails when being like this when he stops thinking for himself, he is actually a good fighter and strategist :P

      In the end you can say that each of the chars have their quirks and that this series is the most down-on-earth approach I've seen for this genre - not the mighty hero fighting for justice with his (often) from evil to good converted companions but just normal people doing whatever they want to do and causing chaos left and right ^^

      To add to what the anon above said, Kazuma doesn't really get knocked around by the girls, actually he's more prone to teasing or slapping them on the head. It seems that way at first but that's just Aqua being a b*tch before her terrible luck and stupidity shine through. The whole thing kind of tilts the usual harem setup on its head.

      It's not a case of him getting manipulated or abused. It's more of a Boke/Tskkomi (straight man) situation. Think more Laurel and Hardy.

    I know I am being a leecher that I has always hated, but I would not feel right without getting this out there.

    Please reconsider your decision about putting Gifting on Hiatus. It is one of the most creative series so far with a far much more enjoyable cast than other generic LN. I am, and many others, are interest in what is going to happen next, especially after this volume spoiler. So according to your words
    "You must be truly desperate to come to me for help"

    YES, I am desperate for more of your awesome and consistent translation. So again, please reconsider your decision.

    I like this series alot more than the other project, also you left it on a cliffhanger, the manga is monthly and the translation for that is either late, or slow

    Id had to wait years to get over the cliffhanger
    Surely you wont change your mind?

    Should probably start off by saying thanx for all the translation that you've been doing, personally I've been anticipating you taking a break for a while now, since you're a regular translator I kinda hope you won't burn yourself out.

    Out of all the translations I really like Gifting, Knights and Magic coming in next(couldn't get into the others), it's sad to see Gifting on hiatus but so far it isn't permanently dropped I can deal with it.

    People are arseholes and should be ignored for the most part. I'm sad to see you dropping out as I've enjoyed all your translations thus far....the fact that people REALLY give much of a crap about a free translation being slightly off from the original because it's a translation of a translation is sad. If you care that much, translate it your damn self.

    This is what sad about LN translators and editors, they don't get enough credit or recognition. I've read quite a few LN and the ones that have the most time and effort put in to them are the ones that have very few chapters and updates every month or so. No one wants to put time and effort into something that isn't always going to do well. Sky, you deserve a break and I have no complaints. I understand your view point in the matter and agree but during your break, please think on the matter a little bit more and get back to us as soon as you can.     First comment here but have read through gifting and I don't understand why people complain about it not being close to the original when at least to me the way you translated it was clear and easy to follow without getting bored. So shame on the leachers who complain when they are receiving a free meal a minimum of 3 times a weak. Also hope you will continue this series someday since it seems you also like this and it is horrible to finish off on such a painful cliff hanger like when a book finishes and it turns out you got to wait a year before the next one comes out to find out what happens. But Sky we all love you here!!!!

    Sky helps a lot, editing and verifying translations from the first draft to the final draft. In fact, everyone in the team makes huge contributions to the final product, whether it is confirming the meaning of words, cross-referencing with the Korean/Jap raws, rephrasing sentences to make sense in English... I probably have the easiest job as translator: all I do is make sure the Chinese meaning is converted into understandable English so that the rest of the team has a starting point to work on.

    Been a reader for awhile now. Really thank you for the work you do. I originally came for Overlord and stayed for it and gifting. While Overlord is kind of one of the "MC is op and owns everyone" stories I really like the plot so far. It's pretty much been papa Ainz's problem children heh. Gifting seems more unique with the cast setup. It's not the bland wimpy MC who gets walked all over by the girls, nor is he remotely op. Also the comedy is usually quite consistently hilarious. That seems to be a rarity in LN. I'm kind of amazed that, just by judging from the comments gifting is unpopular on this site. (Not that I'm disagreeing with you by any means) I also would love to see it continue, especially after that cliffhanger. I'm grateful to the whole team for the releases. Really, thank you everyone for the effort you put in. I you enjoy your break Sky, and I hope the hiatus for Gifting isn't a very long one. I'll be doing what I can to spread the word about it in the meantime.

    Thank you for your translations so far! Keep up the good work. I don't think anyone not doing it themselves or having tried to do it themselves, can really understand how much work you are doing. So take a well deserved break.

    I started coming here for Altina, and then added Gifted to my reading list as well. It's not the best I've read, but it's good enough that I _really_ want to know what happens next... So if you find a way, either getting someone else to do it, or picking it up again yourself, please consider continuing Gifting. :-)

    Thanks for all you have done so far. Gifting is indeed interesting, and not as dark as Overlord, and a good change of pace as well. It saddens me that you have stopped it because it doesn't seem as popular as some of the other titles, but it will definitely have its presence missed.

      I already miss it. Came back on Thursday thinking it was Gifting day...only to remember that translation for Gifting has stopped
