Then some foreigner misread something and it turned into fans voting for Arche to die, and then the wrong info was circulated or something.
I think the US has some of the more assinine laws, but that said, this is written for a Japanese audience. Japanese laws can also be somewhat hard to understand. I don't know if they still have this, but when I was living in Japan they had a law against the depiction of pubic hair. Yet I remember seeing full nudity on TV during family time. Never really understood this, but they used to hire Japanese college students to black out public hair in imported Playboy magazines.

The story and characters seem a bit messy. Ainz is much more dense in this one than I've ever seen him. I guess that's the difference between something that's been professionally published and not huh? Personally I prefer the light novel more and it got the readers to feel really sad.
The Light novel is just a censored, toned down version of web novel. Battles was cut down to accommodate book page limit. Ainz battle in the Colosseum was totally nicer. In regards with this volume ~ hentai materials was removed (Arche, for later volumes ).
Also why spend an entire chapter or two on Arche's background story in the LN, then off her in the end? The LN is a mess. I'd be happier if the writer spend that on the main charaters instead.
It's to kick you right in the feels. Especially if the author managed to convince a small part of you to believe that there was a however-slim chance of a happy ending, after Nfirea/Enri and Sebas/Tsuare.
If the author didn't put any effort into fleshing out Arche's background, nobody would give a flick about her, and there would be no impact to what is clearly meant to be the strongest hint yet that Ainz was truly Becoming the Mask as an Evil Overlord.
In the webnovel, arche is a main character that connect ainz to the magic school arc.. and well.. some people found that arc a bit boring. Maybe thats why they decide to kill arche.. to avoid getting into that arc altogather. The difference in the past volume with the wn is that in the wn the priest guy in the team decide to cooperate with ainz in exchange for arches life/safety, in which he doesnt do in the light novel.
And I think the priest guy is a very important part of the whole plot because he becomes a test subject to experiment on god's existence and their powers. Though even in the wn, he still meets living hell in nazarick basements.. Brainwashed, and even gets to be food supplies... As in, cut right arm> heal >repeat till forevermore. Too bad all people care about are arche... other people in their team suffer fate worse than death in the wn.

Ainz is not a villain. He's fairly neutral, albeit a bit emotional. Becoming emotionless is not the same as becoming a villain. When I think of the word "Khajiit", only the race from the Elder Scrolls games comes to mind. Zach is that boy who serves that fetishist of a princess, right? I might have to reread the whole thing.
It's fairly reasonable that people would cry over the death of a lovely loli. The author really stretched out her background too, with the cute little angelic sisters and whatnot. There's a possibility that she'll come back sooner or later, somehow through some way. Zach isn't tied to a leash yet, no need to cry for him.
I disagree with you on Zach's case! His background may have been bad, but unlike her, he raped women and fought only for himself. Arche was trying to earn money for the sake of the sister with her a$$hole of a dad not helping.
In Khajit's case, he blamed himself for his mothers death. Touching. Although it was a innocent child's wish to revive his dead mom, it turned out horrible as he was willing sacrificed innocent lives to turn himself into a leech. He should have looked for other ways to revive her, but nooooo...(sacarstic tone). He just haaad to be a necromancer instead!

There is a grave difference between Arche's and Khajit's crimes and Khajit is more luckier because I'd rather turn into dust than have my body chopped and toyed with. I would say half the reason people are pissed about Arche's death is because of her sisters (and because apparently they quickly get sold to some kind of slavery and die thereafter). We are saddened and outraged by this because we know (due to her being a POV character). Ainz and the crew, on the other hand, have no idea about this. For them they are just a bunch of greedy adventurers that are, from their point of view, just mooks.
Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that in the WN version she only stays as Shalltear's 'playmate' for a short while before she is allowed to get out and rescue her sisters.
Her fate is not pleasant either way, but one ending only kinda-sorta dooms her while the other ending certainly dooms her and some other completely innocent characters.

On a more serious note, I think the real problem with Arche is that she is a POV character. I doubt we would care about her at all if she didn't have a name or backstory and was just one of the redshirts. But alas, our dear author decided to tug on some heartstrings to establish how his setting is getting more grimdark over time.

ReplyDeleteI love it when people cry for Arche. Dem tears are delicious. When no one gave a damn about Khajiit. Or Zach. I doubt if people even remember their name. Their background is even worse than Arche. People simply cry for Arche just because that is a SHE.
ReplyDeleteJust one thing people should get over it. Overlord is not about VRMMORPG. And Ainz isn't a good guy either. It has been hinted throughout the story about the vilainization of Ainz already.

DeleteAinz is not a villain. He's fairly neutral, albeit a bit emotional. Becoming emotionless is not the same as becoming a villain. When I think of the word "Khajiit", only the race from the Elder Scrolls games comes to mind. Zach is that boy who serves that fetishist of a princess, right? I might have to reread the whole thing.
It's fairly reasonable that people would cry over the death of a lovely loli. The author really stretched out her background too, with the cute little angelic sisters and whatnot. There's a possibility that she'll come back sooner or later, somehow through some way. Zach isn't tied to a leash yet, no need to cry for him.

His background may have been bad, but unlike her, he raped women and fought only for himself. Arche was trying to earn money for the sake of the sister with her a$$hole of a dad not helping.
In Khajit's case, he blamed himself for his mothers death. Touching.
Although it was a innocent child's wish to revive his dead mom, it turned out horrible as he was willing sacrificed innocent lives to turn himself into a leech. He should have looked for other ways to revive her, but nooooo...(sacarstic tone). He just haaad to be a necromancer instead!
So all in all, Arche IS WAY BETTER then those two! I rest my case!
There is a grave difference between Arche's and Khajit's crimes and Khajit is more luckier because I'd rather turn into dust than have my body chopped and toyed with. Plus, Khajit killed people, no matter how logic you use, murder is more grave than tresspassing. No excuse for that. As for the femininism rant, I'd tell you that I really enjoyed Clementines's death. Happy now?

DeleteI would say half the reason people are pissed about Arche's death is because of her sisters (and because apparently they quickly get sold to some kind of slavery and die thereafter). We are saddened and outraged by this because we know (due to her being a POV character). Ainz and the crew, on the other hand, have no idea about this. For them they are just a bunch of greedy adventurers that are, from their point of view, just mooks.
DeleteAlso, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that in the WN version she only stays as Shalltear's 'playmate' for a short while before she is allowed to get out and rescue her sisters.
Her fate is not pleasant either way, but one ending only kinda-sorta dooms her while the other ending certainly dooms her and some other completely innocent characters.
Hope all the kids go back to Sword Art Online.

Basically, what the guys is saying, Anoynmous repliant, is that Ainz is no longer a character he would be sad for if he died or failed. I share his sentiment. Ainz is still less of an asshole than that goblin guy from that other light novel, since he's actually fighting for something other than himself, but teh loli needs justice, fufufu.

I doubt we would care about her at all if she didn't have a name or backstory and was just one of the redshirts. But alas, our dear author decided to tug on some heartstrings to establish how his setting is getting more grimdark over time.
